The tourists are heading home, school is back in session, and the busiest holiday weekends are behind us—but the Texas heat and lake days aren’t going anywhere just yet.

Welcome to Locals’ Summer: that sweet spot after Labor Day when the crowds start to thin out, the weather is still warm, and some of the best days of the entire boating season are waiting for you.

There’s something different about the lake after Labor Day.

The packed summer weekends start to slow down, boat ramps are less hectic, and there’s a little more room to enjoy the water. For locals, September is the perfect opportunity to take advantage of everything we love about lake season—without quite as much of the summertime rush.

That means more room to surf, quieter coves, easier afternoons on the water, and sunset cruises that feel a little more laid-back.

Texas Weather Didn't Get the Fall Memo

The calendar may say September, but Texas isn't exactly pulling out the sweaters yet.

Warm afternoons and plenty of sunshine mean there’s still time for wakesurfing, wakeboarding, swimming, floating, and spending an entire Saturday on the boat.

And when those hot Texas afternoons stick around, there aren't many better places to be than on the water.

Full Lakes Make This Locals' Summer Even Better

This year feels especially good after Central Texas spent years dealing with drought and low lake levels.

Our lakes made an incredible comeback this summer, bringing back the conditions Texas boaters had been waiting for. Now that the peak summer crowds are beginning to slow down, locals have the perfect opportunity to enjoy them.

Whether you're spending the day on Lake Travis, Canyon Lake, or another one of our favorite Texas lakes, don't let the end of traditional summer keep you off the water.

Football Season 🤝 Lake Season

September also brings back another Texas favorite: football. 🏈

But football season doesn't have to mean lake season is over.

Get out early for a morning surf session before kickoff. Spend Saturday afternoon on the boat before heading home for the game. Or grab your crew and make an entire weekend out of it.

In Texas, there's plenty of room for football season AND boating season.

Don't Put the Boat Away Yet

There will be plenty of time for colder weather later. Right now, the water is calling.

Take advantage of the quieter weekends. Chase those glassy morning surf sets. Stay out for sunset. Grab the family after school or get your friends together for a Saturday on the lake.

The biggest summer weekends may be behind us, but that doesn't mean the best lake days are.
